While mowing a section of his land, a local man was killed after he fell off of his tractor at about 10 a.m. Saturday and was caught in the bush hog attached to the PTO behind the tractor.

James Mayfield, 54, of 2354 McNeill Steephollow Rd., was mowing a part of his land when he came upon a 55 gallon drum, which knocked him off the tractor and into the path of the bush hog, said Det. Russell Miller with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

In the accident Mayfield’s left leg was amputated while the right leg was mutilated, Miller said. Mayfield died from the wounds he suffered in the accident.
