Poplarville got a total team effort Monday night in beating Bay High 6-0.

But no Hornet was bigger than pitcher Ashley Graeter, who tossed a two hit shutout in the win and struck out seven Tiger batters.

The win moves Poplarville to 3-6 in division play and 9-11 overall, and the win keeps alive the playoff hopes for the Hornets which end the regular season with two games against Picayune that will likely decide the final postseason participant in the division.

Five different Poplarville players had two hits apiece in the win. Jonathan Anderson had a double and a single, as did Jacob Hariel and Lance Strayhan, who each had a double and a single as well in the 11 hit attack. Dustin Touchet also had a double and a single for the Hornets, while Justin Sones had a pair of singles in the win.

Bay High fell to 2-7 in league play.

Poplarville will now meet Bay High on the road in the second game of the series on Thursday in Hancock County at 5:30.

The Hornets will send Jonathan Anderson to the mound.

Poplarville is expected to then send Graeter, their ace, to the hill against Picayune on Saturday in the first game of that series.

If Poplarville wins Thursday and Picayune should fall to St. Stanislaus on Thursday, a win by the Hornets over the Maroon Tide on Saturday would secure a postseason spot for Poplarville.

Picayune and Poplarvillle meet at 1 p.m., Saturday in Picayune and then at 7 p.m., in Poplarville on Monday night.
