A Carriere woman was killed Thursday morning on Interstate 59 after a hit-and-run car crash with a pick-up in St. Tammany Parish, La.

Rebecca Reiher, 44, was traveling south in the northbound lane of I-59 when her 2004 Saturn sedan collided with a 1998 Dodge pick-up at around 1:05 a.m. Thursday morning, according to a press release from the Louisiana State Police Troop L.

After contact was made between the two vehicles, Reiher’s car landed on its side in the median. Reiher, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown partially out of the vehicle and was pinned underneath the car.

The truck finally came to a stop in the right northbound lane of I-59. According to the press release, the pick-up was then struck by a second vehicle, resulting in a second crash. The driver of the Dodge left the scene.

Reiher was pronounced dead at the scene due to her injuries. It is not known why Reiher was traveling on the wrong side of the interstate, but a blood sample was taken to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor. Results are not expected back for several weeks, however.

Trooper Louis Calato, spokesperson for Troop L, was unavailable for comment on the accident, but anyone with information about the crash or the driver of the pick-up is asked to contact Louisiana State Police Troop L at (985) 893-6250.
