William Sylvester Eck

William Sylvester Eck, 77, of 364 Marigold Road, Spencer, Va., and former resident of Picayune, died on Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville. Born in Lebanon, Pa., on November 19, 1929, he was the son of the late Marie Ruth Eck and Charles William Eck. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Rose Marie Weaver and a brother, Kenneth Eck.
Mr. Eck was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Horsepasture Ruritan Club. He was retired from Martin Marietta in New Orleans, La. He was a navy veteran, having served in the Submarine Service on the USS Tulibee and the USS Jack. In addition, he served in Vietnam 1968-1969.
Surviving are his wife of the residence, Janet D. Eck; sons, Gregory William Eck of Westbrook, Connecticut and Michael Scott Eck of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister, Mary Ellen Eck of Lebanon, Pa.; step-daughters, Suzanne Rose of Grove City, Ohio and Lois Ann Adams of Atlanta, Ga; brother-in-law, Harry Weaver of Dallas, Texas; nephew and wife, Richard and Julianna Eck of Milton, New Hampshire; five grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Ridgeway, Va., with the Rev. Douglas Ramsey officiating.
