Pearl River Community College bounced back from a pair of losses to arch-rival Gulf Coast over the weekend to knock off visiting Southwest in juco baseball action on Wednesday.

The Wildcats of head coach Jamie McMahan took a doubleheader from the Bears, winning the opener 11-6 before taking the nightcap 10-0 in a game shortened to six innings because of the 10-run rule.

With the wins, PRCC moved to 15-12 overall and evened its division record up at 2-2 after the two losses to the Bulldogs in Perk that opened league play for the Wildcats.

Southwest Mississippi falls to 14-12 and 3-3.

In the opener, Cory Jordan (2-0), relieved in the second inning and went the rest of the way for the win. He struck out three in relief of starter heath Stevens. The Bears actually jumped out to a 5-0 lead after their first two at bats, but PRCC stormed back with four runs in the second inning and three more in the third frame to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Daniel Lawrence led the way at the plate for PRCC in the first game, with a home run and a single, while Brock White added two singles to the eight hit Wildcat attack.

Nielson Chao and Justin Hay had two singles apiece for the Bears, while while Toby Easterly took the pitching loss.

In game two, PRCC wasted no time in putting things away as the Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first frame and then added seven runs in the second for a 9-0 lead en route to the 10-0 win.

Poplarville’s Brennen Hodge started and threw five shutout innings with seven strike outs in picking up the win on the hill.He is 4-2. Tyler Watkins tossed the final frame.

Southwest’s Zach White, the Bear starter, took the loss and PRCC did most of its early damage against him.

Chao again had two singles for Southwest, as did Justin Hay.

Johnny Allen paced PRCC at the plate with a double and a single while Picayune’s Stevens also had a double and a single.

Jeremy Greene and Josh Wiley also chipped in with doubles.

Pearl River hosts South Division rival Jones County Saturday in Wildcat Stadium at 1 in a doubleheader.
