Long Beach sweeps Poplarville

Poplarville entered the weekend tied atop the Division 8-4A prep baseball standings with Long Beach, both a perfect 2-0.

Unfortunatley for the Hornets, there was no deadlock 24 hours later.

Long Beach ace pitcher Craig McKay shut down the Hornets in Harrison County Friday night in a 9-3 Bearcats win, and a move to Pearl River County Saturday afternoon didn’t help change Poplarville’s luck as LBHS completed the two game sweep with a 9-4 win.

Poplarvillle now has a four game losing streak, and the Hornets stand 4-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

On Saturday, the Bearcats jumped out to leads of 3-0 and then 8-2 and never looked back.

Ashley Graeter, now 1-2, was saddled with the loss for PHS. Graeter and Jonathan Anderson both had a double and a single for the Hornets, while Anderson drove in a pair of runs as well.

On Friday night, McKay allowed just six hits to the Hornets. Graeter and Jacob Harriel each had a pair of singles to pace Poplarville at the plate. Anderson, now 1-2, took the loss for Poplarville in that game.

The Hornets get right back into Division 8-4A play on Tuesday, traveling to St. Stanislaus for one varsity game at 5:30.
