William Carey to name new president on Thursday

The new president of William Carey University will be introduced Thursday at the private school’s main campus in Hattiesburg.

The name of the new president, who succeeds the late Larry W. Kennedy, has not been made public. Tommy King is acting president of the Baptist-affiliated school.

Kennedy, who died in September, led the college since 1998.

William Carey also has campuses on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the search continues for a new president at the University of Southern Mississippi, one of the state’s eight public universities.

A College Board committee is scheduled to meet in Jackson with members of a USM advisory panel Tuesday to discuss its list of prospects.

The board is picking a successor to retiring USM President Shelby Thames.
