The Feb. 3 Woodham High School meet is always one of the toughest of the entire drill season. Nineteen NJROTC units with up to 300 Cadets entered to compete with the 65 Cadet unit from PRC. Once again PRC proved that hard work and dedication can lead to victory against overwhelming odds. It was a cold and windy day in Pensacola and the Cadets were out in the weather from 7AM through 4PM. They overcame both the weather and the stiff competition to earn the top score and “Number One Overall” distinction.

Ten events were judged to determine the ability of each NJROTC unit. PRC took first place in five and second in two. PRC finished first in Personnel Inspection, Academics, Armed Basic Drill Team, Armed Exhibition, and Unit Sit-ups. They took second in Unarmed Basic Drill team and, Unit Push-ups.

The Top three scores in the Academic competition all came from PRC: Jenny Hope first place, Danielle Walters second place, and Alex Habighorst third place, Luke Restor was right behind them with an 85% score which is truly incredible for a freshman. Dillon Beech was first overall in male sit-ups. Crystal Woods was second in female sit-ups. Meghan Werner was third overall in female push-ups. Augdon Barletto was third overall in male push-ups, and Dawn Sigg was third overall in Knockout drills.

The next competition is scheduled for March 3 at Southern University in Baton Rouge. This competition will decide which two units represents this four plus state region at the national competitions held in Pensacola on 14 April. PRC has represented region eight for the last three years in spite of the fact that they are only six years old and have less than half of the number of Cadets of an average unit. Dedication, pride, and hard work can overcome great odds.
