The U.S. Transportation Security Administration said Tuesday that Hattiesburg Police Chief David Wynn has been named to head airport security for the state of Mississippi.
Wynn turned in his resignation earlier Tuesday to Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny Dupree.
Wynn succeeds former Federal Security Director Larry Rowlett, who was reassigned last October amid a TSA investigation into security practices at Jackson-Evers International Airport.
TSA assigned Dempsey Jones III, a federal security director at several airports in Pennsylvania, as temporary security director after moving Rowlett into a disaster-planning position in the agency.
During his brief stay in Jackson, Jones made a number of changes, including returning a number of TSA screeners from administrative work to performing security functions.
