A Gulfport man killed in Jackson Friday night was shot after stepping outside of a motel room, said JPD Cmdr. Lee Vance.
Vance said Sunday that other details of the shooting of Kimberly Dale Woodcock, 47, were sketchy. No eyewitnesses and no motive are known.
Woodcock had traveled with a group of friends and family to Jackson for the Dixie National Rodeo. The group was staying at the Days Inn within walking distance from the state fairgrounds.
Members of the group told police that they were in a hotel room with Woodcock when he stepped outside for some air. Woodcock was hit in the left shoulder by a single shot around 10:20 p.m. A motel employee said he saw Woodcock walking in the parking lot, fall down, get up and stumble to the front door of the lobby and collapse.
Woodcock was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m., said Hinds County Corner Sharon Grisham-Stewart said. An autopsy performed Sunday showed the gunshot wound as his only injury.
The shooting was the third homicide this year in Jackson.
