The body of U.S. Staff Sgt. Carl Seigart was transported to Picayune after arriving in Gulfport Wednesday afternoon. The soldier died Valentine’s Day when an IED detonated near his vehicle while on a tank recovery mission near Balad, Iraq. A funeral procession will take place at about 1:30 p.m., Thursday afternoon along Goodyear Boulevard and Palestine. Mayor Greg Mitchell and the City Council are asking citizens of Picayune to gather on Goodyear Boulevard or Palestine Road as the funeral procession of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Carl Seigart passes by to honor the fallen soldier. The mayor and council believes this is one way local citizens can honor him and show support for his family.
