Another resurfacing project should begin soon in the City of Picayune, providing a smoother path to Main Street Inc. stores on West Canal Street.
At press time there is no official start date for the work to begin, but the contractor should know more by mid next week said Huey Stockstill, of Huey Stockstill Inc.
Huey Stockstill Inc. has been given 45 days to complete the project, but Stockstill said the company should be able to complete the work in less than 30 days.
“If we get the surface off and get into some problem, it could add some time to it,” Stockstill said.
The plan is to do the job a block at a time starting on a Saturday and moving from the west end to the east end of the street. Stockstill said this will keep the work on the least busy section on Saturday and save the busy section for Sunday. Each block is projected to take about three hours.
The work is projected to remove the asphalt on West Canal to the concrete from Main Street to Crosby Street. A new layer will be added on top to leave about a half inch lip, preventing trip hazards.
Drivers are urged to find alternate routes when the work begins.
