Driver caught with drugs

A Bogalusa, La., man was arrested Saturday for carrying illegal substances following a traffic stop.

Saturday, a deputy with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department conducted a improper equipment traffic stop on Mississippi 26 in the Crossroads Community, according to a release from the department.

The driver, identified as Edward C. Richardson, 28, of 312 Second Ave., Bogalusa, was pulled over for having no tail lights on his vehicle, the release states. When the deputy asked for Richardson’s license, he told the deputy that it was suspended.

Richardson was placed under arrest and searched. The deputy found ecstasy in Richardson’s front pocket, the release states. A search also was conducted on the vehicle where the deputy found powder cocaine between the front seat and the console, the release states.

Chief Investigator Chris Lott said Richardson had about six doses of ecstasy and about three grams of cocaine in his possession.

Richardson wascharged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and driving while his license was license suspended, the release states.

Lott said Richardson also was cited for improper equipment.
