3 killed in holiday wrecks on Miss. state highways

Three people were killed in accidents on state roads over the holiday weekend that ended at midnight Tuesday.

Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers interacted with 7,087 scofflaws who were either issued citations or arrested, starting at 6 p.m. Friday.

There were a total of 194 wrecks investigated, including eight that involved alcohol. Thirty-nine people were injured in those wrecks.

Troopers also arrested 107 people for driving under the influence, including 20 on New Year’s Day. There were also 17 drugs arrests and seven felony arrests.

Tickets were also issued to 45 people who hadn’t strapped in their children.

Two of the three people killed were wearing a seat belt.
