The Mississippi Ethics Commission said Monday that an investigation into improper business dealings in the Lowndes County Tax Assessor’s Office has resulted in a $5,000 fine for Tax Appraiser Eddy Greene.
Ethics Commission executive director Tom Hood said he could not confirm if the agency is looking into other officials in Lowndes County.
Hood said the commission determined Greene violated state ethics laws by working for Mann’s Appraisal Service of Warrior, Ala., which Lowndes County hired to perform appraisal services.
Hood said Greene had indirectly purchased land sold for unpaid county taxes, another violation of state ethics law.
Greene would not comment on the specifics of his case, citing the ongoing investigation.
“I’m just going to suck it up and go on,” he said Monday.
