Police said they are investigating an apparent double murder and suicide in which a man shot his wife and mother-in-law before taking his own life at a home near Natchez in Adams County.

The bodies of Etta White, 58, Donna Berry, 40, and Donald Berry, also 40, were found by police on Sunday, county Coroner James E. Lee said.

Lee said White appeared to have been shot in the head and chest while Donna Berry had a gunshot wound to the head. He said Donald Berry had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Deputies were dispatched to the house around 2 p.m, Sheriff Ronny Brown said.

Brown said a SWAT team was dispatched after deputies were alerted that a man was inside the house with a gun. Officers entered the house and found the two women dead in the kitchen and the man dead in a bedroom.

It was not clear if Donna Berry and Donald Berry were still married, but the two were apparently at the home to divide up possessions, Brown said. Witnesses said Donald Berry pulled a gun and started shooting.

The bodies were taken to Jackson Sunday night for autopsies, Lee said.
