Rumor about The Salvation Army vouchers

A rumor about The Salvation Army concerning monetary vouchers was spread around Pearl River County last week.

According to a press release from The Salvation Army the rumor indicated that Friday the organization would be giving out vouchers valued between $250 to $650 Friday at the Mississippi Mall in Picayune. The rumor was supposedly spread by letters sent out by the organization, but the letters or any other media announcements were never sent by The Salvation Army, the release states.

“This is absolutely a malicious act on someone’s part,” Salvation Army Development Director and Public Information Officer Marlene Buckner said in a phone interview. “We don’t know how the rumor got started.”

Buckner said that the organization has never planned on issuing any such vouchers and has no plans to do so in the future.
