Pearl River Central High School standout Mike Lehmann signed a baseball scholarship with Tulane University recently.

Lehmann transferred into Carriere in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina from Archbishop Hannan High School in Chalmette, La., and quickly made his mark on the prep baseball scene in South Mississippi.

Lehmann went 10-1 on the mound as a pitcher last season, and helped guide the Blue Devils to their first ever Division 8-4A championship in baseball.

Highlights of his season included setting a school record with 17 strikeouts in one win and he posted a huge win over nationally-ranked Petal in the opening game of the Class 4A South State Semifinals.

In addition to his pitching prowess, Lehmann was one of the leading hitters for head coach Greg Lewis’ squad last season as well, as the Blue Devils posted a school record for wins in going 22-10.

Lehmann also has a chance to be drafted relatively high in next June’s baseball amateur draft, after he completes his senior season with the Blue Devils.
