Picayune falls to Wayne County

Despite four touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing from standout tailback Albert Richard, Picayune fell to Wayne County 39-31 Friday night in the Class 4A South State Semifinals.

Wayne County is 13-0 and ranked first in the state in Class 4A and the War Eagles will play Terry for the South State Championship. Picayune finished the season at 11-1.

Richard finished with 231 yards on 28 carries and four touchdowns. Richard finished the season with 33 touchdowns.

Wayne County quarterback Drexler Johnson had his way with Picayune’s defense, hitting on 19 of 28 passes for for 217 yards and four scores.

Wayne County’s Tracey Lampley had 133 yards on 22 rushing attempts.

Picayune head coach Dodd Lee was ejected late in the game after arguing a call in which the officials originally gave Picayune a first down on a completed pass before overruling the call and ruling it incomplete.
