Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will head to Double-A Mississippi this weekend on an injury rehab assignment.
Jones has been on the 15-day disabled list since July 29 with a strained oblique muscle in his left side. He took batting practice for the second straight time Tuesday and felt good enough to push along his recovery.
He will go to Mississippi for games on Friday and Saturday, with an eye toward rejoining the Braves for Sunday’s game against Milwaukee.
Jones, batting .333 with 15 homers and 59 RBIs, was in the midst of a 20-game hitting streak when he was hurt. After missing three games, he returned to the lineup and failed to get a hit.
He sat out another game, then reinjured himself with a swing.
