A Wesson man has been charged with murder stemming from the death of a woman whose body was found over the weekend under a bed in a mobile home.
Julian Williams, 33, was charged Monday with murder in the death of 23-year-old Rhonda Michelle Rushing Mullins. Her body was discovered under a queen-sized bed in a mobile home in Blades Trailer Park Saturday morning, said Lincoln County Sheriff Wiley Calcote.
Williams was brought in for questioning Saturday afternoon after witnesses said he and Mullins met at a party the night before and left together, Calcote said. It was not immediately clear what led to the discovery of Mullins’ body.
The Mississippi Department of Corrections requested the sheriff’s department detain Williams for probation violation from a petty larceny conviction, and he was charged with murder after confessing to the crime, Calcote said.
“Upon questioning, he revealed to us what he had done,” the sheriff said. “He indicated the cause of death was strangulation, but we’re waiting on the autopsy report to confirm it.”
Williams did not offer a motive for the alleged slaying, Calcote said.
“Apparently something happened to have caused this, but I don’t know what it was. He hasn’t said,” the sheriff said.
Williams remains in jail.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the pair were at the trailer, but witnesses reported them seeing them together there, Calcote said.
Mullins’ body was found around 7:15 a.m. Saturday in the trailer. There were no visible signs of injury, but the location of the body under the bed prompted investigators to treat the death as a homicide, he said.
