Factory Connection, Lily’s Boutique and Apple’s Limited located in Poplarville will also participate.

“We will have signs on select merchandise to let customers know what is tax-free in the store,” said Tim Fayard, co-manager at Picayune’s Walmart.

Back-to-school shoppers can purchase school uniforms tax-free at any retailer in Mississippi during the holiday.

The items exempt from sales tax during this period include clothing and footwear items, costing less than $100 per item. Items like jewelry, wallets, backpacks, school supplies and computers don’t qualify for the sales tax holiday in Mississippi, according to the Mississippi Department of Revenue’s website.

Mississippi adopted the sales tax holiday in 2009. Since then, cities across the state have participated on an annual basis. The two cities not participating this year are Enterprise and Heidelberg. All other cities will participate, including Picayune and Poplarville, according to their website.

Participating stores will offer tax-free clothes and footwear beginning Friday, July 31 at 12:01 a.m. until midnight Saturday. Apple’s Limited tax-free sale began last Monday and will last through Saturday.
