Last weekend Picayune optometrist Dr. Lori Blackmer was awarded the coveted Dr. James P. Brownlee Optometrist of the Year award by the Mississippi Optometric Association at their annual fall convention in Jackson.
Blackmer was one of three eye doctors nominated for the award. She was chosen by a selection committee made up of six optometrists on the State Association Board.
“I was overwhelmed, happy and honored,” Blackmer said. “ It felt great that my colleagues thought enough of me to choose me for this honor.”
The award is given to optometrists who demonstrate an “outstanding contribution to the profession of optometry and the visual welfare of the citizens of the state of Mississippi.”
Blackmer has been in private practice for the past 25 years. She is married to fellow optometrist Dr. Marc Hautot.
This year she was sworn into the Picayune School District’s board of directors and participates in many other community projects including Rotary Club and the Picayune Chamber of Commerce. She also supports city and county youth baseball, softball, football, soccer and basketball teams.
Blackmer provides a number of vision services including basic eye exams, pre and post-op care for cataracts and glaucoma, diabetic eye exams, fittings for contacts and glasses and continuing care for macular degeneration and dry eyes.
Her office is located at 908 Sixth Ave. and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the office by phone at 601-798-4182.
