House making first MLB start — see Saturday’s edition for full story

Picayune’s T. J. House is set to make history Friday night.

The 24-year-old former Maroon Tide standout is scheduled to make his first start in the Major Leagues, as visiting Cleveland takes on Baltimore in Camden Yards.

House was recalled from AAA Columbus by the Indians Thursday night, after Cleveland placed right-hander Zach McAllister on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a lower back strain.

House made his MLB debut one week ago today, pitching an inning of scoreless relief at Jacobs Field as visiting Oakland beat Cleveland 6-2. House was optioned back to Columbus for less than 48 hours before being recalled to make his first start in the big leagues.

“It is really exciting. I got to make my first appearance at home on Saturday,” House said. “That was fun. I kind of got that first time out of the way. Even though this is technically my first start in the major leagues, I will be little more relaxed.”

Ironically, Baltimore was the spot where House got his first taste of Major League Baseball.  Last season, House was called up for a three game series while the Indians were at Camden Yards but didn’t see any action before retuning to the minor leagues.

House is 1-2 with a 2.40 ERA in seven starts at Columbus this year. He has 34 strikeouts and 11 walks in 41 1/3 innings. His 2.40 ERA is ninth in the International League.
