Traffic stop leads to arrest

The Picayune Police Department conducted a traffic stop that led to an arrest for outstanding warrants and possession of a controlled substance, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief.

On Jan. 14, at 8:23 p.m., officers conducted traffic stop at Mississippi Highway 11 and Mississippi Highway 43 North for the violation of no tag light, Magri said.

“Upon the officer speaking with the driver, the officer also asked for the passenger of the vehicle’s information,” Magri said. “The passenger gave a false name. Upon identifying him as Brandon Jones, 26-years-of-age, residing at 521 Third St. in Picayune, it was learned he had outstanding warrants with this agency and was on probation violations.”

At that time he was taken into custody, Magri said.

“While conducting a pat-down, the officer also located a plastic baggy containing a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana,” Magri said. “Jones was then transported to the Criminal Justice Center where he was booked and incarcerated for outstanding warrants, possession of a controlled substance and giving false identifying information to a police officer.”

The driver of the vehicle was given a warning for the traffic violation, Magri said.
