South Side Upper Elementary teacher Susan Barker Spiers was honored as the 2023 Educator of the Year at the Keep Mississippi Beautiful Annual Awards Luncheon. Spiers has been a teacher in the Picayune School District for 40 years. Spiers stated she was very proud of this award.

“I hope that I’ve instilled in my students a sense of responsibility to be a contributing member of society. And I think having them create something that tangible and something they can see and feel, something that’s attractive to put around town. Be proud of where they live.”
