A body has been found in hunting land along Texas Flat Road Friday evening.
Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison said the investigation into the case of Willie Jones, who has been missing since July 6, led investigators to a hunting land along Texas Flat Road in Hancock County Friday.
After a search warrant was obtained by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, hours of searching through the land located human remains and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations began processing the scene.
Identification of the deceased is awaiting confirmation from the Pearl River County Coroner’s Office.
Maj. Marc Ogden with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department said their department is now investigating this case because evidence suggests a possible murder took place in relation to the Willie Jones case outside any municipal limits within Pearl River County.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said a body was found during the search based on information gathered during the Picayune Police Department and Pearl River Sheriff Department’s investigation into the Willie Jones case, but positive identification of the remains found is pending DNA confirmation.
