The number of COVID-19 cases in Pearl River County has seen an increase over the past week, but the number of deaths has remained steady.

Statewide there have been 33,591 cases, with 1,204 deaths. The have been 276 cases in Pearl River County, with 32 deaths. The number of deaths in the county has remained mostly steady, with 31 reported in late May, but the number of cases has increased over the past week. MSDH reported 237 cases in the county on June 30. There have been 50 long-term care facility cases and 12 deaths. As of July 2, there were two active outbreaks in long term care facilities: Pearl River County Nursing Home, with one staff case, one resident case and two resident deaths; and Bedford Care Center of Picayune, with three staff cases and one resident case.

Counties with more cases and deaths than Pearl River County as of Wednesday include Forrest with 939 cases and 43 deaths, Hinds with 2,697 cases and 48 deaths, Holmes with 573 cases and 41 deaths, Jones with 1,173 cases and 49 deaths, Lauderdale with 942 cases and 81 deaths, Leflore with 522 cases and 56 deaths, Lincoln with 509 cases and 35 deaths, Madison with 1,382 cases and 36 deaths, Monroe with 436 cases and 35 deaths and Neshoba with 1,022 cases and 74 deaths. The county with the most cases is Hinds with 2,697 cases and 48 deaths. The county with the least number of cases and deaths is Issaquena with 10 cases and one death.

As of Wednesday, there were 14,124 cases reported in Black residents in Mississippi, resulting in 580 deaths. Statewide there have been 7,949 cases in white residents, resulting in 467 deaths.

According to the MSDH website, the number of deaths by age group include: 7 deaths in the 18-29 age group; 18 deaths in the 30 to 39 age group; 55 deaths in the 40-49 age group; 113 deaths in the 50-59 age group; 259 deaths in the 60-69 age group; 320 deaths in the 70-79 age group; 268 deaths in the 80-89 age group and 164 deaths in the 90 and older age group. No deaths have been reported in persons younger than 18 in this state.

Across the state there have been 337,291 COVID-19 tests administered and 22,167 people are presumed to have recovered from COVID-19.
