Wednesday morning, concrete for a sidewalk near Roseland Park Elementary was poured in an effort to repair the aging walkway.

The sidewalk, which is on the north end of Gilcrease Avenue, is one of the first to be repaired in an ongoing city project.

“This project is being done as part of our ongoing campaign to upgrade sidewalks throughout the city at government facilities and schools as our normal budget permits,” Public Works Director Eric Morris said in a written statement to the Item. “We have identified repairs needed at each public school and this one was the worst. Others will be accomplished as budgeted funds allow.”

“It was a collaborated effort between Jan Stevens, City Manager Jim Luke and director of public works Eric Morris to budget and get the sidewalk poured,” said Grant Administrator Christy Goss. “The new sidewalk will provide children a safe route to walk to and from school.”

Goss said the sidewalk repair project had been in the works for a while.

“We have been asking for years,” said Councilor Jan Stevens.

The north end of Gilcrease Avenue will be blocked off due to the construction.
