Supervisors recognize scholarship recipients

Two Poplarville High School graduates are the recipients of the 2020 Pearl River County Mississippi Association of Supervisors County Employee Scholarship.

Zoe Farve, daughter of Rochelle and Scott Farve was recognized with the award at the regular Board of Supervisors meeting held Wednesday.

Through dual enrollment, Farve attended PRCC during her senior year of high school and will complete an LPN program at PRCC in December. After that she plans to attend a university to complete a bachelor’s in nursing and become an RN.

Lauren Tynes, daughter of Al and Tonya Tynes was unable to attend Wednesday’s meeting, but should be able to be recognized at a later date. She plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall, where she has been accepted into the Mississippi State University early entry veterinary program.

The scholarships are presented to students who are children of county employees who plan to attend a Mississippi public college, university, junior college or community college.
In a separate matter, the Board approved a lease agreement for a new sheriff’s department vehicle for $36,767 with BancorpSouth.

In a separate matter the Board approved a new agreement with Datastar to provide virtual tech monitoring services along with remote and on-site support that will be effective July 1. The Board also approved amendments to the current agreement with Datastar.

The county will pay $2,256 for virtual tech monitoring services on 209 workstations and 15 servers. The county will also pay $180 per month for staff access for three people. Along with the new agreement, the Board approved hiring Jesse Taylor in the county IT Department. The Board previously approved hiring Carey Metzler as IT Director in March, giving the county a three person IT department.

In other business the Board:

—Acknowledged the monthly Building Division report that shows in the month of May 212 building permits generated $20,358 in revenue for the county.

The next Board meeting will be Wednesday June 24 at 9 a.m. to discuss how to sanitize county buildings before reopening them to the public.
