The Picayune School District’s summer feeding program will begin providing food for Saturdays and Sundays and will continue to offer meal pickup on Mondays through Fridays.
The district previously planned to switch to a biweekly pickup schedule, but instead meal pickups will be offered five days a week, Monday through Friday.

Food Service Director Debbie Byrd said the previous change two-day a week pickup schedule was cancelled after she discovered that the district could potentially offer food for the weekends as well. So, meal pickup will still be offered Mondays through Fridays and the district will begin including breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday in the Friday meal pickup.

Menus for the week will be passed out on Mondays.

The Saturday and Sunday meals will include frozen lunches with directions parents can use to prepare the meal.

In past years the summer feeding program only offered meals for weekdays. Byrd found out about the possibility of offering meals for the weekends from another food service director.

“I found out about it and jumped on it,” said Byrd.

Anyone 18 years and younger can get free grab and go meals at four sties: Roseland Park Elementary, Picayune Junior High, South Side Elementary and Nicholson Elementary. Meal pickup is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays.

The summer feeding program will run through July 31.

Children must be present to receive a grab and go meal, but do not need to be enrolled in the school district.
