Updated information about COVID-2019 closures

A number of public facilities have closed in response to the ongoing COVID-19 virus.
Both branches of the Pearl River County Library System, located in Picayune and Poplarville, have closed “until further notice,” according to the library system’s website.
As for the biannual Picayune Main Street LLC Street Festival, Director Reba Beebe said the Board of Directors met and decided to postpone the event that was set for April 4 and 5.
According to a release from Pearl River Community College, the administration have decided to extend spring break through the week of March 23 to the 27th. College administration is asked to report toe their offices on March 23 at 8 a.m.
Academic classes at the college will transition to online courses starting March 30 and will remain that way for the remainder of the spring semester. Those students will need to check their email by March 26 for further instructions.
Students in the Career and Technical Education program, Allied Health Program and Nursing Program will receive an email from their respective instructor concerning their coursework by March 26.
Students living in dorms on campus will also find additional information concerning the closing of the campus in their email.
Any event that was planned to be held on campus through April 30 is now cancelled. Additionally, all childcare services are temporarily discontinued. When additional information about services at PRCC is released, that information will be published in the Item.
