Another incident that resulted in damage to a storefront window occurred, this time in Picayune. The first incident involved the Family Dollar in Carriere, where a window was damaged by a gun shot Wednesday night, said Maj. Marc Ogden with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department.

More recently, windows were busted at an empty storefront located at 4100 Highway 11 in the Picayune city limits, said Ogden. Ogden said that looking at the Family Dollar window and the Picayune business’ damage makes him believe the two incidents are related. Assistant Chief Dustin Moeller with the Picayune Police Department said he was only able to confirm via text that there was an incident in Picayune Thursday night.

An as yet unknown suspect fired a gun at the Family Dollar in Carriere Wednesday night, resulting in a damaged window but no injuries. The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident. Previous coverage incorrectly stated that incident occurred Thursday night.

At 9:52 p.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Department received a report of gunshots at the Family Dollar, said Maj. Marc Ogden.

Deputies found one bullet hole in the front glass door. The hole was high up in the window.

Ogden said that after looking at the damage to the window, he believes it could have been caused by a high powered pellet rifle or BB gun.

A witness at the scene of the Family Dollar saw a small black vehicle pass in front of the store when the shot was heard, Ogden said. Continued investigation has determined that the vehicle had two doors and dull black paint.

The department is asking for the public’s help in investigating the incident. Anyone with information concerning the shooting can contact the Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-877-787-5898.
