PRVO partners with Feeding Gulf Coast for another food giveaway

Due to the large response during the last food drive held by Pearl River Valley Opportunity in conjunction with Feeding the Gulf Coast, another drive is set for the middle of March.
PRVO Case Manager Lillie Crawford said that in November of last year she was able to partner with Feeding the Gulf Coast to hold the first food giveaway in Picayune. Previous food giveaways under PRVO were held in Poplarville.
During the giveaway in Picayune, boxes of food ran out. Crawford said she had to turn some of the 150 people who showed up for a box of food away because there was not enough to go around.
Due to that heavy response, Crawford asked the regional food bank if another giveaway could be held in Picayune.
“A lot of people didn’t get boxes,” Crawford said.
Each box contains a variety of nutritious foods, including fresh fruit and vegetables, bakery products, frozen meat, shelf stable items such as canned goods and beverages.
Crawford said that this upcoming food giveaway will be held on March 14, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, located at 501 Weems St., in Picayune. Distribution of the boxes will begin between noon and 12:30 p.m. that day.
Food will be provided on a first come first serve basis.
Anyone with questions about this food giveaway can call the Picayune office of PRVO at 601-749-7729 or the Poplarville office at 601-403-2203.
