The Pearl River School District’s Board of Trustees met for its monthly meeting Feb. 13, which included an update on bond construction and reports from district administration.

After approving the Board minutes from last month’s meeting, and approving the docket, Superintendent Alan Lumpkin started the meeting with his superintendent’s report. During that time he recognized the Board.

February is school board appreciation month, so Lumpkin presented each member of the School Board with a certificate while also giving each member a box of gifts.

Lumpkin said the Board was deserving of the recognition because of the hard work each member puts in for the betterment of the Pearl River County School District.

“We appreciate you for the leadership you bring to the School District. The people that are sitting on the Board show up every month with class, integrity and service,” Lumpkin said.

Patricia Boler then came before the Board as the District’s Student School Board Representative and gave a report on the activities and attendance rates of each campus in the District.

Following Boler’s report, Kim Alford presented the Board with the District improvement monthly data report detailing the attendance rates, rates of discipline and other information from campuses in the District.

PRC Elementary school led the way with an attendance rate of 94.38 percent in January followed by PRC Middle School at 93.75 percent and PRC High School at 92.85 percent.

Business Manager Thomas Burleson then gave an update on the bond construction projects happening throughout the district.

Burleson said that so far construction is moving at a decent pace with the projects at the elementary, middle and high school campuses hopefully being completed before the start of the next school year.

Bids for a multipurpose auditorium building will be opened up next week with the Board then planning on meeting Feb. 27 to review and approve the best available bid.

Following the reports, the Board discussed the set of calendars.

The Board has several calendars to keep track off and to keep things clear Board President Elaine Voss wanted to designate a name and purpose for the calendars.

After discussion, the Board determined that the literature detailing the meeting’s agenda would be called the Board Agenda Schedule.

The decision was also made to combine the District and Board calendar to limit confusion and keep District administration in the loop on when the Board meetings take place.

The Board then made a motion to move into closed session.
