This story has been updated to reflect that a business in McNeill is also selling lottery tickets.
Mississippi Lottery tickets are available at seven locations in Picayune, seven locations in Poplarville one in McNeill and two in Carriere, according to the Mississippi Lottery website.

The scratch off lottery games began Nov. 25 after the Mississippi Legislature passed the Alyce G. Clarke Mississippi Lottery Law in 2018, according to the site. Up to $80 million in annual proceeds from the lottery will go into the State Highway Fund until June 2028. Any proceeds over the $80 million cap within a fiscal year will go into the state’s Education Enhancement Fund, according Senate Bill 2001.

Proceeds put into the State Highway Fund will be used as matches for federal funds awarded to the state for maintenance of federal highways and to renovate state highways and bridges. The money sent to the Educational Enhancement Fund will be used to fund the Early Childhood Learning Collaborative, the Classroom Supply Fund or other educational purposes, according to the bill.

After July 1, 2028, net proceeds up to $80 million will be transferred into the State General Fund. The Education Enhancement Fund will continue to receive any amounts over $80 million within a fiscal year, according to the bill.

The Mississippi Lottery Corporation has to submit quarterly and annual reports that disclose gross revenues, expenses and net proceeds to state officials—including the governor, speaker of the House of Representatives and state treasurer, according to Mississippi Code 27-115-19. The corporation also has to publish quarterly and annual financial statements that will be made available to the public, according to the bill.

People who win more than $600 from a game have to disclose their name and area of residence to the corporation to claim their prize, but the names of winners will not be released publicly unless they give permission, according to the bill.
