Personnel with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department worked a case where a suspect asked his victim for a jump start after allegedly taking tools from his shed, and a separate case involving a man allegedly touching a child for lustful purposes.

Chief Investigator Marc Ogden said the commercial burglary case was called in on Oct. 11, when deputies were sent to a home in the 400 block of White Chapel Rd., after the homeowner noticed some of his tools were missing from a shed.

When the deputy arrived, he spoke with the complainant, who said that earlier that morning, he was awoken by a man later identified as 47-year-old Bradley Duwaine Spiers of 1300 Rock Ranch Rd., Carriere because his vehicle stalled.

After providing Spiers with a jump start, the victim noticed several tools missing from his shed.

Using the information provided by the victim, the deputy began to search for Spiers, locating him in his vehicle, broken down yet again, on White Chapel Road near the intersection of Highway 11.

Due to the items found in the back of the truck, the deputy called for an investigator and Spiers was detained. Further investigation into the case located the tools taken from the victim on White Chapel Road and resulted in Spiers being arrested for commercial burglary and no driver’s license. As a result of Spiers being arrested that day, his bond for a previous arrest for residential burglary was revoked, Ogden said.

In a separate case, 26-year-old Kenneth Patrick Riley of 39 Hasscienda Lane, Poplarville was accused on Oct. 18 of touching a child for lustful purposes.

Ogden said details concerning the case that can be released are scant, but could say that the female child involved in the complaint is younger than 16 and an investigation gathered enough evidence to issue a warrant for Riley’s arrest on that offense, which was served on Oct. 23.  Riley has since been released on a $15,000 bond, Ogden said.
