Cameron Guidry has been bringing home trophies all year as he makes his rounds through various golf competitions throughout the state.

This past weekend Guidry earned another trophy as he competed in the Randy Watkins Jr. Golf Tournament.

The competition took place at the Lake Caroline Golf Course in Madison, Miss. and featured 42 players ranging in age from 14 to 18.

Guidry dominated, shooting a 67-72, which was good enough for first place.

Familiarity with the course ended up being a benefit for Guidry as the weather conditions were less than ideal for a round of golf.

Knowing the ins and outs of the course allowed Guidry to deal with the adversity that was thrown his way.

“It played wet, windy and cold this year, so it felt like a different course,” Guidry said.

Like any day on the golf course, there was a mixture of good and bad for the athletes taking part in the competition.

Guidry specifically thought he did well with his course management, meaning he was patient throughout the round, but said there was still room for improvement.

“I still need to work on wedge distances, and getting closer to pin positions,” Guidry said.

Guidry also plays high school golf for the Picayune Memorial High School Maroon Tide, and said the spring tournaments with the team are beneficial when he starts competing in big time tournaments over the summer.

“They’re good practice tournaments to see where I need to get sharper,” Guidry said.

Hours are spent each day working on putting, driving and other aspects of golf as Guidry relentlessly practices to get better.

Winning tournaments like the one over the weekend is the perfect culmination of his hard work, and Guidry said it’s rewarding to see those hours pay off.

“It was a relief to get this win against a solid field of players to validate all of my hard work,” Guidry said.

The next couple of weeks Guidry won’t be bringing any more trophies home since another tournament won’t take place until next month at the Diamondhead Golf Course in Diamondhead, Miss.

However, that doesn’t mean Guidry will be taking time off to rest on his laurels.

Instead, it’s back to the practice range as Guidry looks to improve specific aspects of his game before next month’s tournament.

“I will be focusing on my wedge distance, and putting to get ready,” Guidry said.

Considering Guidry has won the past two competitions he’s taken part in, there may be another trophy in the future for Guidry when he heads down to Diamondhead next month.

Until then, Guidry will spend his time working on his game.
