Annual Blues and Heritage Festival coming to downtown Picayune

The 12th Annual Blues and Heritage Festival will bring live music to downtown Picayune on Oct. 26.

The free festival will include headliner Ken Pratt Band featuring Denise Owen.

“The headliner is a well-known band from the Delta area, so we’re really excited about them being here,” said Jo Scheel with Picayune Main Street.

The event will be emceed by Lynn and Ted Barze and will also include a performance from the local dance group, the Piney Woods Cloggers.

The festival will also feature the second heritage dessert cook off. Proceeds from the cook off benefit Toys for Tots. Entry is $5 and contestants can compete in three categories: ice, cake and smaller baked goods like cookies or brownies. Contestants must use an ingredient from Mississippi in their creation. The ingredient can be anything from this state, such as blueberries, pecans, zucchini or figs, Scheel said. The winner will earn a prize and the dessert will be auctioned off at the event. Bakers must apply ahead of time to enter the contest and can pick up applications at the Picayune Main Street Office.

The festival will be from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. The featured band will perform from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The main stage will be located at 200 West Canal.
