A man riding his bicycle along Beech Street was struck by a vehicle in the dark of night.

Capt. Kerry McGill with the Picayune Police Department said officers were sent to the area of Beech Street at 8:19 Monday evening in reference to the collision.

The officers arrived to find that a man riding his bicycle wearing dark clothes and having no lights on his bicycle was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord. McGill said the bicyclist and the driver of the vehicle were both northbound on the road when the collision occurred.

The rider of the bicycle was thrown from his mode of transportation and suffered moderate injuries. McGill said the man was later transported to Forrest General Hospital for treatment, but at last word the bicyclist’s injuries were not considered to be life threatening.

Since impairment on the driver of the vehicle’s part was not suspected, no arrests were made, McGill said.
