Veterans who have been declared as 100 percent permanent service connected disabled by the Veteran’s Administration can now purchase up to two tags for their vehicles for only a $1 each.
Cindy Smith, Pearl River County Veterans Service Officer, said the change came with the passage of Senate Bill 2570, which went into effect as of July 1, of this year.
Previously, a veteran who had that designation was allowed only one such vehicle tag, but the amendment to the bill now allows for the purchase of a second tag for a second vehicle owned by the same veteran.
According to the bill, each of those tags can be purchased for only a $1 each, “regardless of the make or model of the vehicle.” Those vehicles are exempt from any ad valorem and privilege taxes, the bill states.
Additionally, the surviving spouse of such a veteran can continue to apply for and be issued up to two of those tags at that rate so long as they do not remarry, the bill states.
