Tuesday’s primary election results established the need for a runoff in some local and state elections.

Of the 32,544 registered voters in Pearl River County, 9,813 ballots were cast Tuesday, equating to a voter turnout of 30.15 percent, according to unofficial results from the Circuit Clerk’s office.

There were 479 absentee ballots cast in the county, said Circuit Clerk Nance Stokes. The majority of those ballots have been counted but there are a few the resolution board needs to review, said Stokes.

There were 141 affidavit ballots cast, Stokes said. Seven were ID affidavit ballots, which means those seven voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday to bring their ID into the clerk’s office, Stokes said. The election cannot be certified until after that deadline, Stokes said.

In races where the top candidate did not receive at least 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will compete in a primary runoff election set for Aug. 27.

Results listed below include 26 of 26 precincts within Pearl River County and pertain only to contested races.

These results include the majority of absentee votes but do not include affidavit ballots, so they are unofficial.

Republican Primary

In the race for State Senate District 47, Joseph Mike Seymour received 2,122 (71.33 percent) and C.T. Switzer received 851 (28.6 percent) votes.

In the race for State House of Representative District 106, Jansen Owen received 1,939 (44.75 percent), incumbent John Glen Corley received 1,355 (31.27 percent), Greg Holcomb received 694 (16.02 percent), and Ben Winston received 345 (7.96 percent) votes. Since no candidate in this race received more than 50 percent of the vote, Stokes said she expects Owen and Corley to be in the runoff election.

In the race for Chancery Clerk, incumbent Melinda Bowman received 5,661 (61.62 percent) and Lisa Graves received 3,514 (38.28 percent) votes.

In the race for Circuit Clerk, incumbent Nance Stokes received 6,533 (71.72 percent) and Tony Bounds received 2,569 (28.2 percent) votes.

In the race for County Prosecuting Attorney, Mike Patten received 4,954 (55.43 percent) and Gerald Patch received 3,978 (44.51 percent) votes.

In the race for Tax Assessor Collector, Gary Beech received 5,826 (63.51 percent) and Hannah Breland received 3,344 (36.45 percent) votes.

In the race for Supervisor District 2, incumbent Malcolm Perry received 1,450 (58.14 percent) and Ernie Clark received 1,042 (41.78 percent) votes.

In the race for District 3 Supervisor, incumbent Hudson Holliday received 1,330 (53.5 percent), Carl Ladner received 875 (35.2 percent) and Trey Galmiche received 281 (11.3 percent) votes.

In the race for District 4 Supervisor, incumbent Farron Moeller received 650 (43.86 percent), Jason Spence received 535 (36.1 percent), Kathy Fayard Aden received 266 (17.9 percent) and Joseph Amos Nix received 29 (1.96 percent) votes. Based on the unofficial count, Moeller and Spence will move on to the runoff election, Stokes said.

In the race for District 5 Supervisor, incumbent Sandy Kane Smith received 1,392 (74.2 percent), Richard Lloyd Crawford received 285 (15.19 percent) and Adam Spiers received 196 (10.45 percent) votes.

In the race for Southeast District Justice Court Judge, Donald D. Fail received 1,601 (60.35 percent) and Jim Gray received 1,051 (39.62 percent) votes.

In the race for North District Justice Court, Larry Head received 1,627 (37.78 percent), Benjamin Breland received 1,540 (35.76 percent) and George ‘Trent’ Boyd received 1,135 (26.35 percent) votes. Based on the unofficial count, Head and Breland will move on to the runoff election, Stokes said.

In the race for Constable North District, Danny Joe Slade received 3,028 (69.16 percent) and Joe Garcia received 1,345 (30.72 percent) votes.

In the race for Constable Southeast District, Ray Bennett received 1,394 (53.59 percent) and Larry ‘Dusty’ Dillard received 1,206 (46.37 percent) votes.

Southern District

Out of 614 precincts, 613 precincts have reported, according to the Associated Press.

Republican Primary

In the race for Public Service Commissioner, Dane Maxwell received 96,661 (68 percent) and Kelvin Schulz received 45,254 (32 percent) votes, the AP reported.

In the race for Transportation Commissioner, Tom King received 83,163 (56 percent), Tony Smith received 47,817 (32 percent), and Chad Toney received 17,684 (12 percent) votes, the AP reported.

Democratic Primary

In the race for Public Service Commissioner, Connie Moran received 49,930 (78 percent) and Sugar Stallings received 13,807 (22 percent) votes, the AP reported.

Statewide

Republican Primary

Out of 1,768 precincts, 1,762 have reported, the AP reported.

In the race for Governor, Tate Reeves received 182,143 (49 percent), Bill Waller Jr. received 124,288 (33 percent) and Robert Foster received 66,190 (18 percent) votes, the AP reported. Reeves and Waller will move on to the runoff.

In the race for Lieutenant Governor, Delbert Hosemann received 307,604 (86 percent), and Shane Quick received 49,954 (14 percent) votes.

In the race for Secretary of State, Michael Watson received 187,937 (54 percent) and Sam Britton received 162,710 (46 percent) votes, the AP reported.

In the race for Attorney General, Lynn Fitch received 160,551 (44 percent), Andy Taggart received 103,135 (29 percent) and Mark Baker received 97,846 (27 percent) votes, the AP reported. Fitch and Taggart will move on to the runoff election, the AP reports.

In the race for State Treasurer, David McRae received 215,980 (62 percent) and Eugene Clarke received 135,049 (38 percent) votes, the AP reported.

Democratic Primary

Out of 1,768 precincts, 1,763 have reported, according to the AP.

In the race for Governor, Jim Hood received 196,965 (69 percent), Michael Brown received 31,844 (11 percent), Velesha P. Williams received 19,606 (7 percent), Robert Shuler Smith received 19,482 (7 percent), Robert J. Ray received 5,382 (2 percent), William Bond Compton Jr. received 5,092 (2 percent), Albert Wilson received 5,030 (2 percent) and Gregory Wash received 3,049 (1 percent) votes, the AP reported.

In the race for Secretary of State Johnny DuPree received 188,503 (72 percent) and Mayra Hodges Hunt received 74,400 (28 percent) votes, according to the AP.
