For almost seven years, Robin Poirier has been renovating an RV park in the Picayune area as part of his retirement.

After spending 40 years as a lawyer, Poirier said he decided to buy and renovate the RV park located at the end of Stafford Road in Picayune. Poirier said he chose to make the business his retirement project because he likes the area.

Now known as Sun Roamers RV Resort and Clubhouse, Poirier invested in the business by upgrading it with new electrical, plumbing and streets. Offering more than 150 sites for camping, either with an RV or in one of the facility’s cabins, Sun Roamers also provides a number of amenities. While most of the lots are for rent using the customer’s personal RV, there are 12 RV’s for rent that are park owned, and 8 cabins for rent. From the Olympic sized pool, to the putt putt course, community members who aren’t renting a site or cabin are also welcome.

Poirier said the pool is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day. Or residents and members of the Picayune community can play a round of putt putt on the grounds during business hours. There’s also a five acre pond complete with fish and a horsehoes course.

The amenities are included in the price to rent a space, or visitors can swim in the pool for $5 a day, or have access to all of the amenities for $8 a day.

Local and traveling clubs can rent the 6,000-square-foot clubhouse, which features a commercial kitchen.

RV sites and the cabins can be rented for a day, a week or by the month. With the rental fee, residents have access to the facility’s 24 hour laundry facility and bath house, along with the other amenities. The facility also has a library that offers a free book exchange, free WiFi to residents and a chapel.

The business also offers a number of events for the local community, such as a free fireworks show on the Fourth of July, a monthly potluck on the third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m., a trunk or treat on Halloween and a community yard sale. Office Manager Angel Avery said the next community yard sale will be in October, and anyone is invited to bring their goods for sale without paying a booth fee. Check the business’ Facebook page for additional details when they become available.

The front office of Sun Roamers is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone interested in renting the pool for a day on Sunday can speak with one of the staff on hand.

The business is located at 41 Mississippi Pines Blvd. and staff can be reached by calling 601-798-5818.
