Two polling precincts have changed locations and one new precinct was added since the last election. Over 3,000 voters in the affected precincts have been sent new voter registration cards alerting them about the changes, said Election Commission Chair Reggie Hanberry.

The Sycamore District 5 precinct moved locations from the First Baptist Church on Sycamore Road to the Harvest Barn Church on George Mitchell Road, Hanberry said.

The church requested the county find a new location, Hanberry said. The Board of Supervisors approved a motion to change the precinct during its Jan. 30 meeting, according to the minutes.

The Picayune District 2 precinct moved from the Chimney Square on Goodyear Boulevard to the Margaret Reed Crosby Memorial Library across the street, Hanberry said. The move was made because facilities in the government building were too small for the precinct and the library offered more space, Hanberry said. The Board approved that change on June 3, according to previous coverage.

A new precinct was added called Springhill District 2, located at the North Central Volunteer Fire Department Station 1, according to the Board of Supervisors meeting minutes from Jan. 30. The precinct will consist of the old Byrdline precinct and a portion of the old Oakhill precinct, said Circuit Clerk Nance Stokes.

The old precincts were consolidated for one election, causing those voters to travel to Poplarville to cast their ballot, said County Administrator Adrain Lumpkin.

The Board later decided to add the Springhill District 2 precinct in January, because each member felt the people in the new precinct had to travel too far to vote in Poplarville, said Lumpkin.
