Katherine King Baker

Funeral service will be held Sat., Aug. 10, 2019 at 11 a.m. in Weems  Chapel United Methodist Church for Mrs. Katherine King Baker age 97 of Picayune, Miss., who died Aug. 1, 2019 in New Orleans, La. Rev. Robert Pittman will officiate at the service.   

A native of Yellow Pine, Ala.,  she retired from Head Start as a Head Start teacher from 1966-1994, 28 years of service.  She was a member of  Weems Chapel United Methodist Church. She served as a United Methodist Women, Sunday school teacher, adult ministry and sang in the senior choir. 

Survivors include two sons Robert (Earldean) Baker and James “Lap” Baker all of Clinton, Miss.; one daughter Linda Baker McGary of New Orleans, La.; five grandchildren Kelli M. Baker, Jamanica Baker, Alisha Carter, Kathrina  McGary, Allegra Baker; seven great-grandchildren Paul Dorsey, Angelo Turpin, D’Angela Turpin, Kesley Robillia, Kristian Baker, Braxton C. Baker and Blakely D, Baker;  five great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Patricia Baker of Fairfax, Va.; lifelong devoted friends Robert and Lenora Jefferson of Picayune, Miss.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by parents Dan and Janie King; one son Charles “Bro” Baker; one grandson Kenneth Baker; one granddaughter Pamela R. Floyd; four sisters Alma C. Mimbes, Lillian Patton, Thelma Johnson, Earnestine Battles; two brothers George King and Dan King Jr. 

Visitation Sat., Aug. 10, 2019 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at Weems Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial in the New Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Baylous Funeral Home.
