Investigators with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department arrested several suspects while conducting routine patrols.

Sheriff David Allison said one of the cases occurred on June 21, just after 1 a.m. when narcotics investigators on a routine patrol conducted a stop on 38-year-old Lewis Kennedy of 1344 West Union Rd., Lot B for traffic violations.

During the stop, the investigators determined that Kennedy possessed a syringe and a distribution amount of methamphetamine packaged for resale, Allison said. Kennedy was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, traffic violations associated with the stop and a hold with the Mississippi Department of Corrections, Allison said.

A passenger of the vehicle, 32-year-old Sterling Emery, of 318 Clark Street, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and a hold with MDOC.

In an unrelated case that occurred later that same morning just before 2:30, narcotics investigators saw a man they recognized as 34-year-old Joshua Smith of 105 Bluebird Lane, walking down the road and acting suspiciously. When the investigators stopped to take Smith into custody for an active warrant with MDOC, they found methamphetamine on his person. Allison said that when the investigators attempted to take him into custody for the drug offense, Smith pulled away and attempted to flee on foot, but was caught by the investigators.

He was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, resisting arrest and for the probation violation with MDOC, Allison said.
