Ruth Presbyterian Memorial Church in Poplarville will dedicate a blessing box in honor of Evelyn Agnelly in the church yard from 11 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

The blessing box will hold food on one side and toiletries on the other, which community members in need can take when needed, said Missions Committee Member Rita Diggs-Jones. Donations can also be left in the box at anytime, said Missions Committee Member Lyn Moore.

“It’s just give what you can and take what you need,” Moore said.

The church believes the project will provide for the community and further commit the church to the community, Diggs-Jones said.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to provide service to the community because as a Christian organization, that’s our charge, that’s what we’re supposed to do is bless others,” Diggs-Jones said.

The project took three months to organize, Diggs-Jones said. Agnelly began the mission to create the blessing box, Diggs-Jones said.

“She has cancer and we don’t know how long she’s going to be with us, and since she started this mission we wanted to honor her in this way,” Diggs-Jones said.

Agnelly is a church elder who has been active in community service work focusing on animal adoption and animal fostering, Moore said.

The church is encouraging other churches to create similar boxes, Diggs-Jones said.
