Edna Smith Venckus

Memorial Services for Edna Smith Venckus, age 97, of Picayune, MS, who passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019, will be Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 12:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Nicholson.

Arrangements are under the direction of McDonald Funeral Home.

Edna was born in New Orleans and raised in The Honey Island Swamp. She was a salesperson at Rushing Jewelers for many years, working with Jim and Linda Rushing, and her best friend, Nina Perilloux. Edna was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Nicholson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother, aunt, and friend, who will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 77 years, Charles Venckus; her parents, Sam Smith and Sara Woods Smith; her daughter, Diane Venckus; her sisters, Viola Frierson and Irene Palade; and her son, Lavelle Thigpen.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Charles D. (Judith) Venckus and Lamar (Wanda) Thigpen; numerous grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other family members; the many members of First Baptist Church of Nicholson; and her wonderful neighbors of Nicholson.
