Pearl River County School District will hold its ninth annual health fair on April 30, where students and members of the community can learn how to lead a more healthy lifestyle.

Director of Instruction Kim Alford said this year’s fair will employ the theme “Passport to Wellness,” and will offer booths from various organizations and businesses to teach attendees about health risks or provide tips.

Some of the booths will include tips about flu season, school bus safety, the hazards of vaping, dental care, chiropractic care and behavioral health.

The District’s new janitorial contractor will have hand sanitizing stations on display at the fair. Those stations will be installed at every campus by the beginning of the next school year, Alford said.

Some of the District’s new school buses will also be at the fair so parents and children can tour them. At those stations families can learn about bus safety.

Blood pressure checks will be provided by the high school’s health science class, a local optometrist will provide eye exams and various food related businesses will provide samples of their products.

Officers with the campus police department will speak to parents and children about the dangers of using vaping products and a local chiropractor will speak about their services.

Free pony rides will be provided by Skate Station.

“That’s always a big hit with the students,” Alford said.

Parents and students can also see the new dishes that will be provided by the District’s Food Services Department.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Carriere campus cafeteria from 5 to 6:30 p.m. that day. The cafeteria is located next to the Pearl River Central High School campus.
