Poplarville Farmers Market to kick off May 2, sponsors, vendors wanted

The Poplarville Farmers Market is returning on May 2, and is expected to bring a number of returning and new vendors.

April Grecho, manager of the market, said the May 2 event will be the kick off for weekly markets held each Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. on the Town Green. During the kick off event on May 2, there will be a live band, face painting for the kids, homemade tamales for sale, and Amish style bread for sale.

Grecho said the hours were adjusted to provide time for people who may be returning home from work so they could get the most from the market. This season’s last event will be held on July 11. The only week that the market will not be held during those weeks will be on July 4.  Grecho said she is looking for local businesses to act as sponsors in order to defray some of the expenses in holding the weekly event. Those who become a sponsor will receive a laminated flyer they can display in their business, which will also act as advertisement for the market.

Currently, Grecho said she has a list of about 30 vendors who plan to participate by selling fresh tomatoes, carrots, greens, jelly, homemade soap, candles, fresh baked bread and eggs.

While she has more than 30 signed up, many vendors don’t come every week, so customers can expect to see something different each week. Grecho said she can get a customer in touch with a certain vendor when they are absent.

Grecho said she is still looking for new vendors. Anyone interested in being a sponsor or a vendor can reach her at 919-280-7411.
